Om man nu tvunget måste plåga folk med politik, tycker jag ju att Gatsbyepokens Calvin Coolidge är himla bra (Reagans favoritpresident by the way). Dock invänds det ofta; ja men han var ändå snubben som regerade under förbudstiden i USA.

Sant, men för att en gång för alla undanröja tvivel bad jag Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation i Vermont (samma delstat där Deep Purple spelade in comebackskivan Perfect Strangers, bara en sån sak!) om en kommentar och fick följande svar: 

The President was by no means a teetotaler. He had no moral qualms with alcohol consumption in moderation.

However, as President of the United States he took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, and, as you know, during his sixty-seven months in the White House our Constitution included language prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcohol.

Therefore, President Coolidge enforced prohibition, despite his personal belief that there was nothing wrong with drinking alcohol. 

Så nu vet ni det. Det är alltså helt okej att digga både Gatsby, Calvin och korka upp champagnen.
